Supporting Business Development

The City of Sonoma does not levy a gross receipts tax.  The City's business license fee is calculated using a low annual base rate typically ranging from $74 to $186 plus a per-employee charge of $37 or less.

The City of Sonoma does not have a utility users tax, nor does the unincorporated area of Sonoma Valley.

Redevelopment loan programs for commercial building rehabilitation and facade improvement are available in both the City and the Springs redevelopment areas.

A "Project Advisory Committee" provides early-stage input from various City departments on private development projects, at no charge.

Permit streamling efforts include a current review of the City's sign ordinance.

The Economic Development Advisory Committee, with representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, City, and County, meets monthly to guide implementation of various strategies to support business retention, expansion, attraction, and creation.
