Downtown Sonoma
Highway 12 is the Valley's main commercial corridor. It runs up Broadway to the Plaza, turns west along Napa Street, then heads north again through the Springs before winding through vineyards along the way to Santa Rosa.
As the center of Sonoma's downtown, the Sonoma Plaza has a rich history, with many buildings that date back to the nineteenth century. Along with historic treasures such as City Hall, the Sonoma Mission, and the Sebastiani Theater, the Plaza is home to a wide variety of outstanding restaurants, art galleries, tasting rooms, and unique retail stores, making it a thriving tourist destination. Certain restrictions on formula businesses apply in the City of Sonoma.
A 2010 visitor survey found that while in Sonoma Valley, the most popular activities include visiting the Plaza (78%), dining in restaurants (78%) and visiting wineries or wine tasting (76%).
