Also known as the Valley of the Moon, Sonoma is found in the heart of scenic wine country.  Santa Rosa, the county seat and the fifth largest city in the Bay Area, lies to the north along Highway 12, which links the Valley to the major transportation corridors Highway 101 and I-80.

Distances to nearby cities include:

Napa                     12 miles
Santa Rosa 20 miles
San Rafael 26 miles
San Francisco 45 miles
Oakland 48 miles
Sacramento 65 miles

Construction is scheduled to begin soon on the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit, a.k.a. SMART Train. Nonstop air service to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Portland, and Seattle is available from nearby Charles M. Schulz County Airport in Santa Rosa, with nonstop service to San Diego starting in June 2012.  The Sonoma Valley region is also served by international airports in San Francisco, Oakland, and Sacramento.
