Friedman's Home Improvement Honored for Green Practices
Friedman's Home Improvement was among sixteen businesses honored recently by the Sonoma County Business Environmental Alliance with a 2009 "Best Practices" award. Friedman's was nominated for this award by the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce. Among Friedman's many accomplishments:
- In 2008, Friedman's diverted an estimated 600 tons of waste from landfills and earned $22,754 for recycled materials. To achieve this same profit, the company would have to sell almost $1.138 million in goods.
- Replaced all florescent tube lighting to ultra-low 28 watt T-8 lamps, saving $700/month and $8,400 annually.
- Remodeled the Sonoma store using smart design and energy-efficient technologies to eliminate the need for a HVAC system.
- Saved an estimated $6,050 annually by purchasing a hybrid vehicle with better gas mileage.
- Installed Bioswale at Sonoma store to filter rainwater runoff and reduce runoff pollution.
- Certified Sonoma Green Business & Business Environmental Alliance Partner.
